Tony Brook

This project involved the design of a 100 × 150 mm booklet, four postcards, and a set of vertical and horizontal posters. The publication focused on Tony Brook and Spin Studio, exploring their design philosophy, visual language, and influence on contemporary graphic design through a coherent editorial and typographic system.

“Essentially typography has two extremes, the rigorous, refinedand legible, and the irreverent, expressive and barely legible”

Link Double Line Medium

The images are taken from the double-page spread SPIN / Adventures in Typography #001 by Tony Brook. On the left, a large letter is constructed using repeated linear elements, emphasizing the compositional process rather than the final form. On the right, a grid displays a series of letters created from the same module, demonstrating how a simple system can generate an entire coherent alphabet. Together, the pages highlight an experimental and systematic approach to typographic design.

Works By

The pages showcase an experimental and deconstructive approach to typography, characteristic of Tony Brook’s SPIN studio. The black-and-white compositions use dark, fragmented forms that evoke parts of letterforms rather than fully readable characters. On the left, the structure of a deconstructed letter can be perceived, while on the right, the graphic sign becomes more chaotic and textured, almost as if it has been broken apart. Within the context of the book, these images represent an exploration of typography as an autonomous visual language, extending beyond its conventional function as text.

Helvetica Alt:Dr. Frankestein’s Helvetica

In this experiment, typography is broken apart and reassembled. On the left, fragmented and overlapping letterforms create a chaotic and dynamic composition. On the right, the same elements are isolated and organized into an experimental alphabet. The project transforms type into a material to be manipulated, challenging its traditional form and function.

The black-and-white compositions employ dark, fragmented forms that suggest parts of letterforms rather than fully readable characters. On the left, the structure of a deconstructed letter can be discerned, while on the right, the graphic form becomes more chaotic and textured, almost as if it has been destroyed. David Bowie

This project involves the layout design of the CD, booklet, and CD case cover for David Bowie. The main idea was to create a consistent visual system across all packaging elements, so that the booklet cover matches the CD case cover, since the booklet is inserted inside it.The images used are taken directly from the music video for the song “Station to Station”, in order to maintain a strong connection with the artist’s original visual aesthetic and the atmosphere of the track. The booklet also includes the lyrics from the entire album, carefully arranged to ensure readability and visual continuity throughout the project. The result is a work that combines editorial design and musical identity, aiming to visually translate David Bowie’s imagery into a coherent and recognizable product.

BRAND POSITIONING STATEMENT

Tra i concorrenti diretti si possono citare: Plastic, Hollywood Rythmoteque, Amnesia Milano, Magazzini Generali, The Club, Alcatraz, Rocket, Fabrique, Old Fashion e Just Cavalli Milano.
